Meet Our Trustees

Hon. Ugas Sheikh Mohamed is a trustee of Tarbaj Waqf Trust. He runs a Fintech company in Nairobi, Kenya specializing in cross-border and last mile payments for businesses and consumers. He is also the current Chairman of the board of the Capital Markets Commodities Authority, Kenya. The Authority has the statutory mandate of regulating the capital & commodities markets, licensing market operators and products, as well as promoting market activities especially sustainable finance. Ugas has led an impactful career spanning technology, education, and philanthropy, with 29 years of experience in IT and Telecom, where he rose from technical to leadership roles as CEO and Director in both corporates and government institutions. He is a founding member of global Foundations supporting social welfare, education, water access, and climate resilience across the Horn of Africa region. He channels his passion for philanthropy into uplifting underserved communities. He leverages his expertise by volunteering on the boards of schools, colleges, and government agencies. He was instrumental in establishing the Kenya Presidential Digital Talent Program to equip graduates with ICT skills and spearheaded the nationwide Digital Literacy Program for primary schools. He continues to pioneer initiatives broadening digital access. He currently runs a fintech business in Nairobi. He holds advanced degrees in business Information systems and an MBA in project management. His visionary leadership at the intersection of technology, education, and social impact has bettered countless lives.

Mr. Omar Kassim is a Trustee of Tarbaj Waqf Trust, holds an MBA in Strategic Management and Registered Technical Engineer with Engineers Registration Board of Kenya. Currently the Executive Director of Kenya Muslims Charitable Society, an NGO working in the areas of Development, Health, Education, Humanitarian, Culture and Environmental programs among others. Previously worked with Ministry of Water Development, National Water Conservation & Pipeline Corporation, Kenya Posts & Telecommunication Cooperation then Telkom Kenya in various capacities. He has undertaken various Consultancies, Evaluations and Research studies in Project Management with a blend of Engineering, Administration and Management skills in public, private and non-governmental sectors of society.

Hon. Ahmed Bashane Gaal is a trustee of the Tarbaj Waqf Trust and a former Member of Parliament for the Tarbaj Constituency in Wajir County. With an extensive academic background, he holds a Master’s degree in International Relations, a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and a Diploma in Surface Water Technology. Throughout his career, Hon. Bashane has served in various capacities across multiple sectors, including the Ministries of Agriculture, Water, and Roads, where he contributed significantly to policy development and project implementation. His commitment to improving water resources led him to head the Water and Sanitation Section at ALDEF, a prominent non-governmental organization focused on sustainable development. Later, Hon. Bashane took on a leadership role as the Regional Manager at the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), a government parastatal under the Ministry of Roads, where he played a key role in overseeing rural infrastructure development and improving road connectivity in underserved areas. Currently, Hon. Bashane is deeply involved in social and community work, dedicating his efforts to enhancing the welfare and livelihoods of the people in his community. His vast experience in governance, engineering, and resource management continues to shape his impactful contributions to public service and community development.

MOHAMED Sheikh Abdikassim is a Trustee of the Tarbaj Waqf program. He is a dedicated person passionate about empowering communities through education, ethical business practices, and spiritual guidance. He is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Law. He is the Chairman and the founder of the Al-HIKMA group of schools. A thriving network of schools committed to providing quality education that integrates academic excellence with strong Islamic moral values. Mohamed doubles as a Businessman with years of experience in entrepreneurship and strategic leadership and has successfully managed diverse ventures while maintaining a focus on ethical business principles. He is a devout religious leader fostering spiritual growth, community harmony, and faith-based guidance. His regular sermons, workshops, and counseling sessions helped numerous individuals navigate life’s challenges with a strong moral foundation.
